FLOW

.

Flow includes 18 hours of guided learning, and an overall commitment of approximately 60 hours for folks wishing to receive a certificate of completion.

Flow in St. John's runs from November 27-30, 2025. Applications now open. Click here to apply. Deadline: Sunday, November 15th at 11:59pm

Flow, Form and Function are three different intermediate level courses that each have their own unique focus. Flow is all about creating dynamic group classes fuelled by music. Form focuses on working with Pilates-based private clients. Function introduces heavier weights and goal-based training.

All five courses combined will total over 250 hours of education! Courses can be done at your own pace, or even individually as continuing education for qualified instructors.

Flow is one of three third level teacher training courses intended for folks who have a strong knowledge in anatomy and have started to explore teaching movement. We will continue to study anatomy and movement, but shift our focus to class planning and creative sequencing. In Flow, we will explore moving to music, and working with themes to create intentional experiences (Foundation and Fundamentals, or the equivalent, are prerequisites to all level three courses)

Much like its prequels Foundation and Fundamentals, we continue talking about movement of the body, teaching methods, and cueing techniques. We use what we know thus far to continue exploring other movements, alternative ways of approaching them, and deepen our practice of sharing movement with others. We introduce more small props in Flow, like a step or block and light weights between 4 and 7 pounds. We will continue to experiment with the Pilates squish ball and very light weights between 1 and 3 pounds.

Anatomically, Flow focuses on balance, hip strength and mobility, and arm/elbow function. Methodologically, Flow is mainly informed by the principles of Pilates, but includes some basic music theory, western classical dance practices and aspects of strength training.

About The Instructors

Your main course leader at the Academy is Robyn Breen, who's been a movement educator for over 18 years. Robyn started teaching dance as a teenager, before taking her first Pilates Teacher Training Course in 2007. She holds a BFA (Honours) in Dance from York University, and is a graduate of the School of Toronto Dance Theatre (now known as Dance Arts Institute).

Robyn's full list of certifications, courses and workshops is long and diverse (and available by request). Some highlights include:

  • Balanced Body (Movement Principles, Pilates Reformer Levels 1, 2, and 3)

  • Yoga Detour's extensive Pre and Post Natal Certification

  • Madeleine Shen Lopez and Camila Seeger's Integrative Axis Syllabus Course

  • Mindful Strength's Teacher Program for Strength Training (focus: strength training, progressive class programming, pain science, and accessibility)

Your guest lecturer for Flow is Lindsay Kinzinger, a Toronto based contemporary Pilates instructor, personal trainer and movement educator. Lindsay is always aiming to create an experience in which the student can explore a connection to themselves while practicing functional and challenging exercises in her classes. It is important to Lindsay to structure classes with thoughtful sequencing and a blend of movement modalities to leave her students feeling energized, strong and more in tune with their bodies.
